NEW PORT RICHEY, FL – January 11, 2023 – Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind has received a generous grant from the Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring, to be used to provide life-changing training and services to people who are visually impaired and blind. The grant will cover the cost of one of the Lighthouse’s Independent Living Skills Programs (IL) provided in 2023 to Pasco adults and seniors who are visually impaired and blind. The Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring strives to support individuals, children and families in need and at risk in Hillsborough and Pasco Counties. Through volunteerism and funding, the Foundation leverages resources to enrich lives and create measurable, immediate and ongoing positive changes in our communities.

At the check presentation, Lighthouse CEO Stefanie Pontlitz said, “LVIB is so grateful to the Florida Medical Clinic’s Foundation of Caring. It is vitally important that we keep our adults and seniors independent and confident in their own homes as they lose their vision.” The Lighthouse would not be able to provide such needed services without the support from FMC Foundation of Caring and other caring individuals. LVIB provides several IL programs each year, at a cost of almost $1,700 each. For many LVIB clients, IL is the first program they take when they need to adjust to life with low or no vision. The Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring was formally organized in 2005 after a long history of informal community giving. The Foundation started by helping 5 local non-profit organizations, and now has assisted 180 organizations in Pasco and Hillsborough counties with over $3.6 million in funding. FMC Foundation of Caring and Florida Medical Clinic have also contributed 70,000 hours of volunteer service in the community. The Lighthouse appreciates the Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring’s assistance with the Independent Living Skills program that provides much needed services to adults and seniors who are visually impaired and blind living in Pasco County.
