Everyone deserves the opportunity to work; however, there is an over 70% unemployment rate for persons who are visually impaired and blind. To help address this problem, the Lighthouse created the Lighthouse Production Facility.
The Lighthouse Production Facility provides hands-on job training, a work experience program, and employment to persons who are visually impaired and blind. Trained workers are employed at The Lighthouse Production Facility, as well as in the community. Employment at The Lighthouse Production Facility is contingent upon Federal contracts developed with the National Industries for the Blind, corporate partnerships, and community support. Since opening in 2012, we have been fortunate to receive several contracts. We are always ready for more.
In November, 2022, Scott and Marlys made the news across the State! Blind workers learning skills to join the workforce was picked up in Jacksonville and Ft Lauderdale!
We need your help to make this program a success. Please contact Stefanie Pontlitz to learn about hiring a blind worker or to contract projects to the Lighthouse. We hope to hear from you.
Consider putting us to work for your business by contracting administrative, assembly, or light manufacturing projects to the Lighthouse. The Lighthouse has a workforce of trained workers and a light manufacturing and assembly facility, ready to help you with your business needs. Please contact Stefanie Pontlitz to learn how our workers can serve your organization, how you can contract the Lighthouse to get your work done, and about tax credits that may be available to your business when you enlist the services of blind workers.
The Lighthouse is a partner employment center of RESPECT of Florida.
The ways that visually impaired and blind workers can serve your business are probably broader than you think. Visually impaired persons who are trained and ready, are capable of fulfilling a number of job duties which include assembly work, manufacturing, shipping, administration, and customer service. Lighthouse programs provide the training and experience needed for blind adults to be successful workers at The Lighthouse Production Facility and in the community. We can train a worker to succeed in your workplace. Please ask us about our experience employing persons who are visually impaired and blind for assembly and database management projects, as well as the incentives available to businesses that employ visually impaired people.
The Lighthouse has provided Vocational Rehabilitation/Job Readiness Training to adults with visual impairments since 2009. Vocational Rehabilitation prepares participants for future employment at the Lighthouse and in the community. Training includes Independent Living; Orientation and Mobility; Computers and note-taking devices; Career Counseling and Guidance; Job Search Assistance; On-the-Job Training; Job Skills Training related to light manufacturing and warehouse distribution; and Job Modification, including Adaptive Technology. As part of the program, we provide information on tax credits and other incentives available to companies who hire visually impaired and blind workers. We also provide outreach/sensitivity training to businesses so they are able to prepare for employing persons who are visually impaired and blind.
