I. The Lighthouse Opportunity Center “Feel the Vision Tours”

Logo for the Lighthouse Opportunity CenterPersons living with vision impairment and blindness want to work and together, we can help give them the OPPORTUNITY!

Please join us at The Lighthouse Opportunity Center for a “Feel the Vision Tour” that simulates blindness in the workplace. Sighted guests are invited to go under blindfold to work alongside our visually impaired workers. This experience, guaranteed to be memorable, provokes wonder and exploration into a world that so few people know, while creating an understanding of vision loss, and an appreciation for people who are working to remove barriers to their full participation in the community.

Bring your team for an amazing experience. Tours are scheduled at your convenience. For more information, please call (727) 815-0303 or email lighthouse@lvib.org.

Read about The Lighthouse Opportunity Center in the Suncoast News April 2012 article titled Lighthouse adds jobs for vision impaired. Thank you for your support!

II. White Cane Awareness Day

October 15 is designated as National White Cane Safety Day. The purpose of the day is to increase knowledge among the public that the white cane is a device used by persons with visual impairments to help them travel safely and live independently. Each year on October 15, the Lighthouse celebrates White Cane Awareness Day by having an awareness walk/barbecue in a park in Hernando County. Everyone is invited! Closer to the date, we’ll post the time and place. Event sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information, please contact events@lvib.org. To view pictures from last year’s event, please visit our photo gallery. Thank you!

III. 28th Annual Chasco Coronation Ball 2013

Each year, the Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind hosts the Annual Chasco Coronation Ball. The Ball is a black tie event, held to recognize local philanthropy, and to crown a King Pithla and Queen Chasco, 2 community leaders who give of their time and talents to the many non-profit organizations in our community. The ball also raises much needed funds and awareness for the Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind. Proceeds from the event are used to provide vision rehabilitation services to persons who are visually impaired and blind.

Congratulations to 2012 royalty! Cindy Ewald was crowned Queen Chasco and Bob Memoli was crowned King Pithla. Thank you to everyone for your ball sponsorship and donations. Thanks also to everyone who attended the ball – it was a great event and raised funds for Lighthouse services. Please visit our ball page for more information.

The date for the 2013 ball is pending – please stay tuned!
